About us

The NSW Housing Appeals Committee is an independent appeals body that reviews certain decisions made by social housing (also referred to as public, community housing and Aboriginal community housing) providers in NSW.

About the role

The member role is a Ministerial appointment, accountable to the Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services. The role involves merits review hearings, assessing evidence, interpreting policy, and making recommendation to the housing provider.

Members must be available for up to two full hearing days each month to six weeks and three scheduled training days each year.

Successful applicants will have:

  • an interest in broader social, affordable and private sector housing issues in NSW
  • experience in hearing processes and deliberations
  • an understanding in policy and the ability to interpret policy
  • experience in interviewing high needs clients
  • have high-level analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • a strong sense of fairness and an awareness of cross cultural issues
  • the ability to exercise impartial judgment
  • the ability to make fair, balanced and equitable decisions

Essential requirements of the role

It is an essential requirement of the role that successful applicants are fully vaccinated and able to provide acceptable proof of vaccination status.
